Best Toilets UK 2026 — Complete Buyer's Guide
Choosing a toilet might not be the most glamorous part of a bathroom renovation, but it's one of the most important. Here's everything you need to know about toilet types, flushing technology, and the best buys for 2026.
Types of Toilet
Close Coupled
The most common toilet in UK homes. The cistern sits directly on the pan. Easy to install, widely available, and simple to repair. Best for: most bathrooms.
Wall Hung
The pan is mounted to the wall with no visible floor contact. The cistern is concealed in the wall (in a 'frame'). Creates a clean, modern look and makes floor cleaning much easier. Best for: contemporary bathrooms, en-suites.
Back to Wall
The pan pushes back to the wall, concealing the cistern behind a furniture unit or panel. Good compromise between the clean look of wall-hung and the simplicity of close-coupled.
Smart / Bidet Toilets
Heated seat, warm-water wash, air dry, deodoriser, night light. Growing rapidly in the UK market. Best for: those wanting a luxury bathroom experience.

Rimless vs Rimmed Toilets
Rimless (or 'open rim') toilets have no ledge under the bowl edge — making them dramatically easier to clean. Bacteria and limescale have nowhere to hide. This is now the default choice in premium toilets and we'd recommend it for any new installation.
Water Efficiency
UK regulations require toilets to use no more than 6 litres per flush (4/2.6L dual flush is common). Look for the Waterwise Recommended Checkmark for the most efficient models.
